A fresh wave of violence has hit Sokoto State after suspected bandits attacked a rural community, killing a village head, his son, and several other residents in yet another deadly assault that has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in the North West.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community in the early hours, opening fire on residents before targeting the home of the village head. The traditional ruler and his son were among those killed during the attack, while several houses were looted and properties destroyed.
