The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme, for allegedly posing as a medical doctor and defrauding a woman of ₦500,000 with a false promise of securing jobs for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested by officers from the Uwanse Division in Calabar South after a petition was filed by the victim. Preliminary investigations indicate that he allegedly used his fake identity as a doctor to gain the woman’s trust before collecting the money. Detectives also recovered exhibits believed to be connected to the alleged offences.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation to determine whether there are other victims or accomplices. The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court if sufficient evidence is established. Police also urged members of the public to verify employment offers through official channels before making any payments.
