According to a report by Daily Trust, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening fiscal reforms aimed at strengthening the state’s financial resilience and improving service delivery.
The governor also pledged that every financial resource entrusted to the government would be managed prudently and translated into measurable benefits for the people of Kaduna State.
He made the remarks while receiving members of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, led by its Chairman, Dr Mohammed Bello Shehu, during a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Wednesday.
The commission is currently touring states across the country as part of efforts to review Nigeria’s horizontal revenue allocation formula.
Speaking during the meeting, Sani said his administration has demonstrated that prudent resource management, institutional reforms and strategic investments can deliver transformative outcomes.
He noted that Kaduna State has recorded significant progress in fiscal sustainability, healthcare delivery and education over the past three years.
According to the governor, reforms, improved technology and enhanced transparency have contributed to a significant increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
He attributed the growth to deliberate reforms focused on diversifying revenue sources, modernising tax administration and improving compliance through technology-driven systems.
Sani said the introduction of Project C.R.A.F.T. and the PAYKADUNA platform has simplified revenue collection, enhanced transparency and significantly reduced leakages.
The governor added that his administration has also prioritised building public confidence in government, arguing that increased trust in public institutions has encouraged greater voluntary tax compliance.
On healthcare, Sani said the state government has embarked on an extensive expansion and modernisation of health infrastructure, including upgrading one Primary Healthcare Centre in each of the state’s 23 local government areas into a Centre of Excellence.
He added that the government has procured modern medical equipment and three ambulances, while also recruiting additional healthcare workers and improving their remuneration.
The governor said expanding access to quality education remains central to his administration’s development agenda.
According to him, Kaduna has achieved near gender parity in school enrolment, with boys and girls now represented in almost equal numbers.
He credited the achievement to sustained collaboration with development partners through programmes such as AGILE and ROOSC, which have expanded educational opportunities for girls and other vulnerable children.
Sani also said the number of out-of-school children in the state has dropped significantly from a projected estimate of 535,000 in 2023 to 187,720, based on the state’s latest household mapping exercise covering all 23 local government areas.
While acknowledging that challenges remain, the governor said the progress demonstrates that the state is moving in the right direction.
He added that the achievements have been supported by sustained public investment, including the allocation of 26.5 per cent of the state budget to the education sector.
