Adequate measures have been put in place for the reconstruction of the collapsed Namnai Bridge in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The Acting Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Taraba State, Engineer Abel Valdon, disclosed this during an interview with our zonal correspondent.
He said all necessary processes have been completed, with the project awaiting recommendations for commencement.
Valdon revealed that a team of engineers from the Bridge Construction Department of the Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja, recently visited the site of the collapsed bridge to assess the extent of the damage and submit an accurate report to the headquarters for further action.
He stated that the damage to the bridge requires more than emergency repairs, adding that the Taraba State Government had earlier assured that it would liaise with the Army Corps to provide an emergency bridge as a temporary alternative for commuters.
The controller attributed the delay in awarding the reconstruction project to the technical processes involved, including design work and other necessary procedures.
He noted that the collapse of the Namnai Bridge has affected socio economic activities due to its strategic location, which links the southern and northern parts of the country.
Valdon appealed to commuters to exercise patience, assuring them that the government is working to intervene and reduce the hardship caused by the collapse.
On the collapsed Mayo Kam Bridge in Bali Local Government Area, the controller said the host community has provided palliative measures to allow temporary passage for vehicles.
He added that the ministry has compiled its yearly reports on collapsed bridges and culverts and forwarded them to the headquarters for necessary action.
