Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has flagged off the construction of the Kofare, Mbamba and Saminaka Solar Hybrid Interconnected Mini Grid Project, describing it as a landmark initiative aimed at tackling energy poverty and improving access to reliable electricity across the state.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Fintiri said the project represents another milestone in his administration’s commitment to providing sustainable infrastructure that will enhance the quality of life for residents and stimulate economic growth.
The governor noted that access to reliable electricity remains one of the key drivers of development, stressing that the solar hybrid mini grid will provide clean, affordable, and dependable power to households, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and other public institutions in the benefiting communities.
According to him, the project is expected to reduce dependence on diesel and petrol generators, lower energy costs for consumers, and promote the use of renewable energy as part of efforts to build a more sustainable and environmentally friendly economy.
Governor Fintiri explained that improved electricity supply would create opportunities for small and medium sized enterprises to expand their operations, increase productivity, and generate employment. He added that stable power would also strengthen healthcare services, improve educational outcomes, and encourage investments in agriculture, commerce, and manufacturing.
The solar hybrid interconnected mini grid combines solar energy with other power sources to ensure a more stable and uninterrupted electricity supply. Energy experts believe such systems offer an effective solution for communities that experience limited access to the national electricity grid or frequent power outages.
The project aligns with both the Federal Government’s energy transition agenda and Adamawa State’s broader development strategy, which prioritises infrastructure expansion, economic diversification, and improved public service delivery. It also supports Nigeria’s commitment to increasing the adoption of renewable energy while reducing carbon emissions.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a transformative investment that will improve living standards and unlock new economic opportunities.
