The Federal Government has unveiled a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening the funding of Nigerian universities and improving their global competitiveness as part of broader efforts to transform the country’s higher education sector.
The initiative is designed to address long-standing challenges affecting public universities, including inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, limited research capacity and declining global rankings. Government officials said the new plan will focus on sustainable financing, innovation and academic excellence to position Nigerian institutions among the world’s leading universities.
Speaking on the initiative, the Federal Government stressed that quality education remains central to national development and economic growth. It noted that universities must be adequately funded to produce graduates with the skills and knowledge required to compete in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.
