The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) says it has secured investment commitments exceeding 20 billion dollars within the past year, marking a significant milestone in efforts to revitalise Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and attract fresh capital into the sector.
The company disclosed that the achievement comes as Nigeria’s crude oil production has risen to approximately 1.7 million barrels per day, reflecting improved operational efficiency, enhanced security around oil producing areas and renewed investor confidence in the country’s energy sector.
According to NNPCL, the investment agreements cover upstream exploration, production expansion, gas development and critical infrastructure projects aimed at increasing output while strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global energy market.
The company attributed the improved production levels to ongoing reforms across the petroleum industry, stronger collaboration with government agencies, host communities and security organisations, as well as sustained efforts to curb crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which have long hindered production.
NNPCL stated that the increase in crude oil output is expected to boost government revenue, improve foreign exchange earnings and enhance Nigeria’s capacity to meet its obligations under the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries production framework.
The national oil company also highlighted the growing interest from international and local investors, noting that policy reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act have created a more transparent and competitive investment environment. These reforms, combined with improved regulatory certainty, have encouraged new investments across the oil and gas value chain.
In addition to crude oil production, NNPCL said it is placing greater emphasis on natural gas development as part of Nigeria’s broader energy transition strategy. Several gas processing and transportation projects are underway to increase domestic gas supply, support industrial growth and expand access to cleaner energy for households and businesses.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to improving operational efficiency, expanding production capacity and delivering long term value for Nigerians through strategic partnerships and responsible resource management. It also pledged to continue investing in modern technology and infrastructure to enhance safety, reduce environmental risks and improve the sustainability of its operations.
Industry analysts say the combination of increased production and substantial investment commitments could strengthen Nigeria’s economic outlook if production levels are sustained and investment projects are implemented as planned. Higher oil output would increase export earnings, support fiscal stability and provide additional resources for infrastructure development and economic diversification.
As global energy markets continue to evolve, NNPCL believes Nigeria is well positioned to attract further investments by maintaining policy consistency, improving security and ensuring a stable operating environment for both existing and prospective investors.
