According to a report by Daily Trust, Oluwabukolami Adeyemi, the Nigerian student who emerged as the overall best candidate in the 2022 Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge AS Level examinations, has graduated with a First Class degree in Law from a university in Newcastle, United Kingdom.
Her outstanding performance in the Cambridge examinations, in which she recorded the highest scores among candidates from 146 countries, earned her widespread recognition in Nigeria. She received commendations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and several other prominent personalities.
In August 2023, Adeyemi, who hails from Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, was received at the Government House in Lokoja by the then Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in recognition of her academic achievement.
Following the reception, Bello awarded her a private scholarship that covered her tuition, accommodation, living expenses and other educational costs throughout her undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
Adeyemi has now completed her Law degree with First Class honours, a milestone widely regarded as a testament to her academic excellence and the support she received through the scholarship.
In recognition of her latest achievement, Bello has announced another scholarship to sponsor her master’s degree in the United Kingdom.
In an emotional video expressing her appreciation, Adeyemi described the former governor as “God-sent to humanity” and thanked him for making her educational journey possible.
Her father, Olumide Adeyemi, also expressed gratitude to Bello, saying the scholarship ensured that his daughter’s exceptional talent did not go to waste.
He said it would have been difficult for him to finance her overseas education despite her remarkable academic ability, adding that the former governor’s generosity had benefited many other young Nigerians before and after his daughter’s award.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings, good health and long life for the former governor.
In September 2023, Bello fulfilled his pledge by providing the scholarship that enabled Adeyemi to pursue her law degree in the United Kingdom after she received the prestigious Cambridge award for topping the 2022 Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge AS Level examinations.
