Europe is confronting growing concerns over fertiliser supplies following disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route for global energy and fertiliser exports. The supply uncertainty, linked to the conflict involving Iran, has prompted the European Union to introduce emergency measures aimed at protecting agricultural production and limiting the impact Agricultural organizations have warned that prolonged disruptions could increase production costs for crops including wheat, barley, maize, and vegetables. Fertiliser are among the largest input expenses for many farms, and sustained price increases could reduce application rates, potentially affecting crop yields and pushing food prices higher for consumers on food prices
