Nigeria’s renewable energy sector has received renewed momentum as All On Partnerships for Energy Access unveiled a roadmap aimed at attracting greater investment and strengthening collaboration to accelerate access to clean and affordable electricity across the country.

The initiative was highlighted during the company’s 10th anniversary celebration in Lagos, where government officials, development finance institutions, private sector leaders, renewable energy companies, academics and development partners gathered to assess the progress made in Nigeria’s off grid energy sector and discuss the next phase of growth.

The event focused on the critical role of partnerships, innovation and long term investment in closing Nigeria’s electricity access gap. Stakeholders agreed that expanding renewable energy will require stronger cooperation between government and private investors, alongside policies that encourage sustainable financing and business growth.

Representing the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, commended All On for helping underserved communities gain access to clean energy. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to creating policies that encourage innovation, investment and greater private sector participation in the electricity market.

Speaking at the event, All On Chief Executive Officer Caroline Eboumbou said the organisation has evolved from being an impact investor into a key ecosystem builder within Nigeria’s renewable energy industry.

According to her, providing finance alone is not enough to transform the sector. She explained that building a sustainable renewable energy market requires technical support, business development, innovation and strategic partnerships that enable companies to grow and attract additional investment.

Over the past decade, All On said its investments have helped expand renewable energy access to nearly two million Nigerians through various clean energy projects. The organisation noted that its support has extended beyond financing to include venture development, ecosystem strengthening and market building.

A fireside discussion featuring Damilola Ogunbiyi, Chief Executive Officer and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Sustainable Energy for All, emphasised the importance of institutions that build markets and mobilise investment rather than simply funding individual projects. The discussion concluded that stronger collaboration and continuous innovation will be essential for delivering reliable and affordable electricity across Nigeria and other African countries.

An independent impact assessment conducted by Dalberg also found that All On’s investments have contributed significantly to expanding energy access while supporting business growth and creating new opportunities for underserved communities.

Industry leaders further identified local manufacturing, innovative financing models, enabling government policies and increased private sector participation as the major drivers that will shape the future of Nigeria’s renewable energy industry.

To recognise outstanding contributions to the sector, awards were presented to several organisations and individuals, including The Rockefeller Foundation, Sustainable Energy for All, the Rural Electrification Agency, the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, Shell Nigeria and Dr Osagie Okunbor.

Looking ahead, All On reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising catalytic capital, strengthening renewable energy businesses, encouraging innovation and deepening partnerships that will expand access to clean, reliable and affordable electricity across Nigeria.

As Nigeria continues to face significant electricity supply challenges, industry stakeholders believe that coordinated investment and supportive government policies will play a vital role in accelerating the country’s transition to renewable energy while promoting economic growth, job creation and improved living standards for millions of citizens.
